FOOTBALL MADE IN NAIJA III

Its another Monday again, time for our weekly review of News making the Headline in Nigeria. This time we will begin with the News from the Football Governing body in the Country Nigerian Football Federation(NFF).
The Nigeria Football Federation has overturned the decision of NPL clubs to dissolve the executive committee of the Nigeria Premier League.
At a meeting on Friday, the NFF Executive Committee rejected the decision, claiming it did not comply with the provisions of the NPL Statutes.
Sixteen clubs met in an emergency meeting in Abuja, and voted to dissolve the board and set up a six-man interim committee to steer the affairs of the league, with elections to hold within two months.
However, those decisions were not taken at a properly-convened Congress as stipulated in Art 21 of the NPL Statutes which states that 'Only a Congress that is regularly convened has the authority to make decisions'.
Consequently, the NFF has directed the 'immediate convening of a proper Congress in line with the NPL Statutes.'
That Congress will now hold in Abuja on Tuesday December 11, with the NFF appointing three observers to supervise proceedings.

Flying Eagles confident of 2013 World Cup ticket

Champions Nigeria have expressed confidence they will scale past their first round AYC group to qualify for the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup.
The Flying Eagles have been drawn against Mali and debutants Gabon and DR Congo at the 2013 African Youth Championship to be hosted by Algeria from March 16 to 30.
The Nigeria U20s eliminated Mali in the semi-finals of the 2011 AYC in South Africa on their way to emerging as champions at the expense of Cameroon.
While both Gabon and DR Congo will only be making their debuts at the tournament proper in Algeria.
Flying Eagles assistant coach Yakubu Maidajin described Sunday’s draw in Cairo as a favourable one, while maintaining this only means the team have to work a lot harder.
“It’s a favourable draw and we ought to qualify from this group,” he offered.
“A team like Ghana would have proved a difficult opponent but good enough we are not drawn against them in the group stage.
“All the same, if we work hard this tournament would be a lot easier than when we won it last year because the teams in our group are most likely to have too much respect for us.”
Flying Eagles goalkeeper coach Alloy Agu said the country’s chances of going past the first round are very bright.
“It’s an interesting draw and our chances are very bright, but we cannot afford to underrate any of the teams especially Gabon and DR Congo who have been doing very well lately,” said Agu, who featured at the 1985 U20 World Cup in the former Soviet Union.
“We will rise to the occasion so as to meet our targets, which is first to qualify for the World Cup and then successfully retain our championship.”
The team’s joint leading scorer in the qualifying tournament with three goals Alhaji Gero equally expressed confidence Nigeria will advance to the World Cup to be hosted by Turkey in June.
“We are in a good group but we still have to go out there, fight and prove we are the champions,” the big Enugu Rangers striker said.
“We will qualify for the World Cup to begin with.”
The Flying Eagles eliminated Tanzania and South Africa to qualify for the 2013 AYC.

Enyimba block want-away Eagles ace Uche
Enyimba will not release Eagles ace Henry Uche who said he does not wish to play for them again as they owe him over seven million Naira.
Eagles midfielder Uche has insisted he does not wish to return to the Aba club because his contract with them is over and they also owe him more than seven million Naira in unpaid signing-on fees over four seasons.
A top source close to the Eagles star informed the media that Uche has already formally quit the six-time NPL champions, but top officials have insisted he return to train with the team for the new season.
“His contract with Enyimba has ended. What he agreed and negotiated with the club was a year’s contract and that has now ended. He is therefore willing to forfeit what the club owe him because he simply does not wish to play for them anymore. He is just fed up with their many unfulfilled promises,” a source informed.
Enyimba team manager Deboy Ekweronu has instead told Uche to return to the club because they wish to cash in on his transfer to another club.
“We have invested in you and exposed you and now you want to leave us when we want to get our return on you. You cannot fight Enyimba and so you better come back to the team,” Ekweronu warned the former Shooting Stars midfielder.
Enyimba have given several players like defender Kenneth Anyanwu a free clearance because they do not have the money to pay what they owe them.
Anyanwu is owed about 14 million Naira by the Aba club, but he has now been told he could move on as a free agent as they cannot pay him.
