Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has agreed a £10m deal for 25-year-old Marseille striker Loic Remy - paving the way for Magpies forward Demba Ba, 27, to leave in January.

Arsenal and Liverpool target Fernando Llorente is set to meet Juventus officials on Monday in a bid to thrash out a deal that will see the 27-year-old old Spain striker leave Athletic Bilbao.

Chelsea have been told to cough up £30m if they want to sign 28-year-old Corinthians striker Paolo Guerrero, who scored the winner against them in the Club World Cup final.

Reading are hopeful of beating Arsenal to a deal for highly-rated Zambian defender Stoppila Sunzu, 23, from Congolese club TP Mazembe.

Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes plans to retire again at the end of this season, with fellow veteran Ryan Giggs also set to leave and defender Rio Ferdinand yet to indicate if he will extend his contract.

Former QPR striker Les Ferdinand is set to return to the club in a coaching role under manager Harry Redknapp.

Everton manager David Moyes has revealed his ambition to coach in a European league one day - and named Germany as the most appealing option.

Journalists, fans and Uefa officials were left stunned after the Champions League last 16 draw produced exactly the same ties in both the rehearsal and the real thing - the odds for which are 5,000-1.

England striker Andy Carroll, 23, wants to return to Newcastle after being told his Liverpool career is over. The Reds' £35m record signing is on a season-long loan at West Ham but has been told by manager Brendan Rodgers that he can leave in the summer.

Barcelona are eyeing Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez.
The Daily Express says Barcelona have emerged as a potential destination for Hernandez, who has found first-team opportunities hard to come by this season at Old Trafford.
Should Barca move out David Villa next month, then they could bid to bring in Chicharito as cover.
The Spanish Liga leaders would seek to do business for £15 million
AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani insists "no decision" has been made on the sales of Robinho and Alexandre Pato.
Galliani is expected to fly out to Brazil this weekend for negotiations with Santos for Robinho and Corinthians for Pato.
“We won’t sign any more strikers, even if one of the current roster leaves. If both of them go, then we’ll see what we will do.
“We haven’t decided yet on Robinho and Pato, as it’s still only December. The Brazilian transfer session ends on April 15.
“Was the offer for Pato satisfying? We’ll see. Robinho wants to go back to Brazil because his family is there and it’s a personal choice. We received an offer from Santos which we rejected, but there has not been a second proposal yet.
“Brazilian football has grown on an economic level, as with sponsorship deals and pay-per-view television the clubs can afford more than they could in the past. We will speak with Pato and Robinho to decide what to do.
“For now Pato and Robinho are Milan players. Our books are balanced and we are even set to make a profit. Any potential Pato and Binho sales would go into the 2013 budget.”

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has delivered his Christmas message to fans.
Perez admits the club is in "crisis".
“We love an escape and we hope that in 2013 we can escape from this brutal crisis. Real Madrid never gives up, not in a sporting sense and not in the sense that we want to improve our relations. Real Madrid is not a normal club. It has made it to 110 years of history having kept its identity, belonging to its members, and at the level we are at. Thanks to all of you because you help us to be a little better, and let’s hope the escape become real in 2013."

The return of Gareth Bale can push Tottenham right into the top four according to manager Andre Villas-Boas.
The Welsh winger has missed the past three weeks of action for Spurs because of a hamstring injury but will be back for the weekend’s home clash with Stoke City.
Villas-Boas is delighted to have Bale fit again and feels he will make a massive difference to a side already sitting fourth on the table.
"Yes, we have missed him. He is an important player for us. He can make the difference," Villas-Boas said.
"You saw what he did against Liverpool (when Bale scored and provided an assist in the 2-1 win). He was outstanding.
"Players like him can decide a game for you and for us it is a tremendous boost to have him back, no doubt."
