ROUND OF MATCHES PLAYED ACROSS EUROPE

It was an eventful evening where games were played across the various leagues in Europe.
Soccer4life presents you with a round up of all the matches played yesterday.
We start with the English Premier League.
ASTON VILLA 1 - 0 READING
Christian Benteke fired Aston Villa out of the relegation zone with a late winning goal in a 1-0 Villa Park victory over Reading.
The striker rose highest with 10 minutes remaining to power his fifth goal for the club and secure a much-needed three points in the basement battle at Villa Park.
Up until that point Reading had produced a hard working performance and looked on course for a point in a game void of any quality in front of Villa's lowest home league gate - 28,692 - for six years.
Benteke and Andreas Weimann failed to take the hosts' best opportunities while Adam Le Fondre should have scored for the Royals.

Villa started the game on the front foot, keeping hold of the ball without really penetrating the Reading backline.
They were very nearly punished when Mikele Leigertwood's teasing cross from the right was deflected up into the air, but Le Fondre was unable to find the back of the net with his acrobatic overhead kick attempt.
The hosts were next to go close as Brett Holman's daisy cutter of a cross was well controlled by Benteke, but his effort towards goal was tame, allowing Adam Federici to make an easy save.
Soon after Villa should have taken the lead as Benteke's clever pull-back was smashed over the crossbar from Weimann.
Nathan Baker then headed over the crossbar from Barry Bannan's corner and Benteke's curler was easily held by the busy Federici as the sides went into the interval with the game finely balanced.
Following a scrappy opening to the second period the Royals should have broken the deadlock just before the hour mark as Le Fondre somehow managed to head over the bar from Nicky Shorey's corner.
At the other end, Villa squandered another opportunity from a corner of their own as Ciaran Clark headed inches wide.
The hard working Jason Roberts then cut inside before his shot was cleared to safety by the right-boot of Brad Guzan.
Just as the game was heading for a dull goalless draw, Villa broke the deadlock with 10 minutes remaining.
And it was Benteke who found the target as he climbed above Sean Morrison to meet Ashley Westwood's corner to send the ball into the far corner to seal the three points for Paul Lambert's side.

 SUNDERLAND 0 - 0 QPR
Harry Redknapp was left frustrated in his first game in charge of Queens Park Rangers after seeing his side held to a goalless draw by Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
Chances were few and far between in a game which illustrated why both these sides are struggling at the wrong end of the table.
Jamie Mackie and Djibril Cisse both went close for Rangers, while Steven Fletcher was denied twice for Sunderland in a tense encounter.
QPR were the better side for long periods of the game, but they could not find a way past a resolute Sunderland defence.
Sunderland suffered an early blow when skipper Lee Cattermole, who was a doubt coming into the game, was forced off after just six minutes through injury with Jack Colback replacing him.
Former Sunderland striker Djibril Cisse was keen to impress on his return to the Stadium of Light and he twice went close to scoring in the first half when he saw his first shot tipped round the post by Simon Mignolet before flashing a fierce shot just wide of the target.
QPR came close to breaking the deadlock on 37 minutes when Adel Taarabt played Jamie Mackie in on goal only for Mignolet to race off his line to save his effort with his feet. The ball rebounded to Taarabt inside the box, but he saw his firstl effort blocked by Phil Bardsley before seeing his next effort again blocked by Craig Gardner.
Sunderland struggled to create too many clear goalscoring chances in a disjointed first half, but Steven Fletcher almost made the breakthrough four minutes before the break when Adam Johnson slipped him in on goal, but Julio Cesar did well to push his shot behind for a corner.
QPR were forced into a change at the start of the second half with Rob Green replacing the injured Julio Cesar in goal.

The visitors continued to call the tune early on in the second half and Stephane Mbia went close just before the hour mark with an ambitious effort from fully 30 yards whch fizzed just wide of the post past a scrambling Mignolet.
Green was called into the action for the first time on 64 minutes when he produced a superb reaction save to keep out Fletcher's powerful header from Seb Larsson's corner.
QPR almost caught Sunderland on the break in the closing minutes when Mackie found substitute Shaun Wright-Phillips inside the box and his shot was well saved by Mignolet.

In Germany
Champions Borussia Dortmund stumbled to a 1-1 draw against promoted Fortuna Dusseldorf, tightening their grip on second place in the Bundesliga standings but failing to make up significant ground on leaders Bayern Munich.

akub Blaszczykowski's goal just before the break looked enough for lacklustre Dortmund but Stefan Reisinger equalised in the 78th minute for the battling visitors to snap the champions' three-game winning streak.
Dortmund, who take on Bayern in the big match of the season on Saturday, lacked speed and precision inside the box with playmaker Mario Goetze and central defender Mats Hummels rested.
Fortuna were down to 10 men in the final minutes after a second booking for Ivan Paurevic.
The draw lifted Dortmund to 26 points, two clear of Schalke 04 who lost 3-1 at Hamburg SV and Eintracht Frankfurt, beaten 3-1 by visitors Mainz 05.
Bayern, top on 34, travel to Freiburg on Wednesday and Bayer Leverkusen, on 24, will move into second place with a win at Werder Bremen.
Dortmund, desperate to close in on Bayern ahead of Saturday's game, had to wait until two minutes from halftime to crack open a populous Fortuna defence.
Poland captain Blaszczykowski volleyed in after a lightning quick combination with Kevin Grosskreutz in the box.

Instead of finishing it off, however, Dortmund, looking tired after a busy month in three competitions, gradually allowed the visitors back into the game.
Fortuna were unlucky not to score when Reisinger's drive from 10 metres was accidentally blocked by his team mate Ken Ilso with Dortmund keeper Roman Weidenfeller beaten.
Reisinger was not to be denied, however, shaking off Marcel Schmelzer to head in through Weidenfeller's legs at the far post in the 80th minute.
Hamburg showed they can win this season even without injured Rafael van der Vaart, scoring three times in an exciting second half to beat Schalke 3-1 and move up to eighth and back into European contention.
A fierce 20-metre missile from Maximilian Beister in the 52nd put them ahead and Artjoms Rudnves tapped in a second goal from five metres in the 65th as Schalke scrambled in defence.
Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored on the rebound after Rene Adler did well to save his spot kick with 10 minutes to go but it was the hosts who struck again with Milan Badelj converting his penalty in the final minute to see Hamburg bounce back from last week's defeat to Fortuna.
While in Italy, Lazio wear 'No Racism' shirts but fans sing racist chants Lazio's Alvaro Gonzalez, Mirolsav Klose and Hernanes secured a 3-0 victory over Udinese in Serie A at the Stadio Olimpico where the home fans sang racist chants aimed at rivals Roma who share the stadium.
Lazio took to the field wearing a "No Racism" logo on their shirts in the aftermath of an attack in Rome on Tottenham Hotspur fans on the eve of last week's Europa League tie and anti-Semitic chanting during the game with the London team.
However, chants of "Roma, Jewish club" could be heard on Tuesday from the Curva Nord, home to Lazio's hardline ultra supporters, aimed at their bitter local rivals, although other sections of the crowd booed and tried to drown them out.
UEFA is deciding what sanctions to take after the events of last week, with Lazio president Claudio Lotito having met one of the injured Spurs fans, many of whom are Jewish, in hospital earlier on Tuesday.
The victory over Udinese took fifth-placed Lazio to 26 points from 14 games, six behind leaders Juventus and within two of Fiorentina and Inter Milan in third and fourth respectively.
Lazio started brightly, earning a penalty in the 11th minute when Udinese's Willians handled as he got in the way of Stefan Radu's backheel from a corner.

However, Antonio Candreva's spot kick was weak, allowing visiting goalkeeper Zeljko Brkic to save.
Five minutes later Lazio did take the lead when the lively Stefano Mauri's nicely-weighted pass found Gonzalez, who slotted the ball past Udinese's Serbian keeper.
With playmaker Candreva, on loan from Udinese, working well in a wider role and Mauri and Ederson controlling central midfield, Lazio were in control for long stretches of the game.
It was thus no great surprise when they scored a second just past the half-hour thanks to another Mauri assist which found Klose, who beat the offside trap before coolly side-footing home.
The victory was secured shortly just before the hour when Brazilian Hernanes, a halftime substitute for Ederson, clipped a free kick, awarded for a clumsy Andrea Coda challenge on Klose, over the wall and into the net from the edge of the box.
"That was a great performance," Lazio's Bosnian coach Vladimir Petkovic told Sky Italia.
"It wasn't easy after the missed penalty, but we believed in ourselves, we kept up a high rhythm for 90 minutes and didn't allow Udinese any space.
Udinese coach Francesco Guidolin, whose side finished fourth last season but are currently languishing in 12th after five games without a win, said they now had lots of work to do.
"We've got to start again, because if we carry on like this we're not going to be going anywhere. This can't be the real Udinese. Yes, we've got problems with injuries, but that's no excuse. Our objective now has to be to reach 40 points."
Else where in France St Etienne down PSG on penalties to reach semis. St Etienne had goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier to thank as they reached the Coupe de la Ligue semi-finals by beating Paris St Germain 5-3 on penalties after the game at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard finished goalless.
Ruffier blocked Thiago Silva's weak spot kick to effectively seal the home team's passage into the last four after a tense affair in Saint-Étienne ended 0-0 after extra time.
"It was not easy. The whole match was tough against a great PSG team," the keeper told French TV channel France 3.
Ruffier started brightly and never lost concentration in a game dominated by PSG whose forwards just could not beat him.

PSG's Zlatan Ibrahimovic intercepted an awful pass from a St Etienne defender and rushed into the box but Ruffier kept his composure to parry the Swede's low shot with his right foot.
St Etienne responded quickly but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's header was cleared off the goal line by Clement Chantome.
PSG striker Ezequiel Lavezzi then had a goal disallowed for offside and while Les Verts had most possession, the visitors looked more dangerous.
PSG's second-half substitute Nene provided more pace up front but they still struggled to create any clear chances in a match featuring the best two defences in Ligue 1.
In extra time, Lavezzi collected a terrible back pass by Francois Clerc but his own poor delivery to Ibrahimovic enabled Ruffier to dive at the striker's feet to deny PSG once again.
Lavezzi fell on his knees in disbelief while former AC Milan striker Ibrahimovic hit the ground in anger.
PSG fullback Sylvain Armand unleashed a spectacular rising shot from the edge of the box in the closing stages but Ruffier tipped the ball over the bar to send the tie into a shootout.
On Wednesday, French champions Montpellier host Nice while Lille travel to Bastia. Rennes host Troyes on Thursday.
The semi-final draw will also be made on Thursday.
Then finally in Scotland, Inverness draw level with Celtic with Aberdeen win, Billy McKay bagged a double and Gary Warren also found the net to help Inverness Caledonian Thistle draw level on points with Celtic at the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League with a 3-2 win at Aberdeen.
McKay's second, in the 82nd minute, earned Caley victory at the expense of the Dons, for whom Josh Magennis also scored twice.
McKay had earlier given his side the lead but they had to come from behind at Pittodrie after Magennis struck twice in five minutes.
Motherwell recorded their third successive away victory in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League with a 2-1 success over Dundee United at Tannadice.
Michael Higdon capitalised on hesitancy amongst the home defence to fire the visitors ahead after seven minutes.

A wonderful 20-yard strike from Chris Humphrey doubled the Fir Park side's advantage three minutes later but Jon Daly netted his fifth goal of the season to reduce the deficit before half-time.
Motherwell survived a barrage of second-half pressure to clinch all three points.
Ross County and St Mirren settled for a point apiece in an entertaining goalless draw at Global Energy Stadium.
The teams produced nine goals the last time they met but although there were no goals on this occasion the match was not short on incident.
County's Sam Morrow headed against the crossbar in the first half and the visitors twice thought they had broken through in the second, with Sam Parkin denied by a post and John McGinn's effort cleared off the line.
In the Liga - Malaga scrape through, Mourinho whistled into the next round of the Copa del Rey.Third tier Cacereno came within a whisker of upsetting Malaga in the Copa del Rey, winning 1-0 at the Rosaleda but going out on away goals after drawing 4-4 on aggregate.
Real Madrid, Real Betis and Osasuna all reached the last 16, while second division Cordoba and Las Palmas claimed the scalps of top-flight sides to progress.
The split among Real fans over their support for coach Jose Mourinho, in the spotlight after his side slipped 11 points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona, was evident at the Bernabeu as some sections whistled when others chanted his name.
Qatar-owned Malaga, who are fourth in La Liga and have cruised into the last 16 of the Champions League, were clinging on desperately at the end of their last-32, second leg but had luck on their side.
Cacereno winger Chapi pounced on a loose ball after a free-kick to put the visitors ahead in the 37th minute and they sensed an upset towards the end of the second half.
Malaga defender Martin Demichelis diverted a goal-bound shot just wide of his own post and goalkeeper Carlos Kameni pushed another shot into the side-netting in the closing stages.
When the visitors did finally bundle the ball home again at a corner the 'goal' was ruled out for offside and Manuel Pellegrini's side hung on to go through.
"Without the correct attitude you cannot play football," Pellegrini, who famously suffered a 4-1 humiliation to third-tier Alcorcon as Real Madrid coach, told a news conference.
"If we had gone out it would have been fair enough."
Mourinho gave four B team players a start against third-tier Alcoyano, including an official debut for 21-year-old winger Denis Cheryshev, who made his first appearance for Fabio Capello's Russia in a friendly this month.

However, it was the established figures of Jose Callejon with two goals and substitute Angel Di Maria with one who struck late for a 3-0 victory as Real triumphed 7-1 on aggregate.
Mourinho sent out assistant Aitor Karanka to speak to the media after the game and answer questions about the whistles.
"You hear a lot of things in the dugout," he said. "People at the stadium have the right to express themselves.
"There will be people who are in favour and those who aren't but no one can doubt our professionalism."
Cordoba upset Real Sociedad by taking advantage of some poor defending to draw 2-2 at Anoeta and advance 4-2 on aggregate.
The Andalucian club's prize is likely to be a meeting with holders Barcelona, who host Alaves on Wednesday with a 3-0 first-leg advantage.
Las Palmas ousted Rayo 1-0 on aggregate after grabbing a goalless draw in Vallecas where the home side had their goalkeeper sent off for the second time in the tie.
Real Betis, spurred on by their surprise 1-0 defeat of league champions Real at the weekend, overturned a first leg deficit against Valladolid to progress 3-1 on aggregate.
Osasuna joined them with a 2-0 home win over second tier Sporting Gijon, giving them a 2-1 triumph.
