Manchester United have always been known as a team who play from the wings, and as such will always do their best to recruit the best players in those positions. For some decades the team could boast of a Ryan Giggs on the left and a David Beckham on the right, and then came the Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo, who would later at one stage win the award of the best player in the world.
With the glorious days long gone, United have been struggling to re live those good days by signing flank players both tested and unheard ones. This adventure has led to the signing of; Luis Nani, Antonio Valencia, Bebe, Ashley Young, Wilfred Zaha and Kagawa though he is better off in the hole behind the striker.
The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and the arrival of Antonio Valencia from Wigan proved to be the beginning of a new era on the wings for Manchester united. The United flank began to loose the pace, flair, dribbles and goals which it brings to the team. with Valencia though United could afford to play the ancient cross and nod style of football unfortunately that lasted for only a season and half.
Noticing that Valencia was doing a lot of work and Nani was largely inconsistent, United under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson in its wisdom decided to sign a promising flank player who will bring flair to the team in the person of Ashley Young from Aston villa.
The arrival of Ashley young was greeted with great joy and expectation from the united faithful, and Young didn't disappoint by providing an assist on his debut and a series of man winning performances with the last being his stunning strike against Arsenal in their 8 -2 victory over the gunners.
Ever since then Ashley Young has not been able to find his feet in the team, delivering a lot of unnecessary crosses into the box, series of diving, and lack of intent when tracking back to help the team in defence.
Manchester United fans worldwide have continued to watch their once loved Young turn to an agent of embarrassment, and they now feel enough is enough, to make matters worst Ashley Young delivered his worst performance as a united player in their 4- 1 thrashing at the hands of their so called noisy neighbors. In an attempt to show that they the Manchester United fans can't take it anymore they have resulted to twitter to vent their anger and rage.
Below are some of the tweets;
Here’s a list of United players i’d start above Ashley Young... Nani, Kagawa, Januzaj, Zaha, Lingard and last but not least... BEBE! #mufc
I have no idea why @youngy18 keep getting games. It is not a good sign when you keep losing big matches. #MUFC
For those that say Moyes needs time: Moyes doesn't need time. He needs to stop playing utterly ineffective players named Ashley Young #MUFC
If David Moyes plays Ashley Young in a league game again, he should be fired immediately. It's that simple. #MUFC
Something tells me Ashley #Young will follow the Darron Gibson Twitter route after today. #mufc
Ashley young must have absolute blinders in training games #mufc #notastarter
Ashley Young was dispossesed 0 times today. Proves City's tactic with him was just leave him be & wait for him to give it to them. #mufc
Words cannot begin to describe how hurting it is to always see Ashley Young in that starting 11...it kills my soul!! #mufc"
I would offer more in a united shirt than Ashley Young. So woeful! still wondering why Sir Alex Ferguson signed him. #MUFC
I will note that we did not concede a goal after Ashley Young left the game. We won 1-0 after he left. #MUFC
With David Moyes still wondering how to win over the hearts of the Manchester United faithful, i think the wisest thing is for him to start by offering Ashley Young a comfortable seat on the bench beside Micheal Kane.
