Aston Villa are considering making a move for Manchester City's out-of-favour 30-year-old defender Joleon Lescott, who supported Villa as a boy.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish expects forward Wilfried Zaha, 20, to stay at Selhurst Park until the summer - but admits a big bid could tempt the Championship club to sell in January.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are in pole position to sign Zaha and the Old Trafford club are confident of recruiting the England international in the summer.

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has been quoted by Spanish newspaper AS as describing reports linking striker Radamel Falcao, 26, with Real Madrid as "totally false".

Waterford United chairman John O'Sullivan says 18-year-old Irish striker Sean Maguire, who is joining West Ham, reminds him of Barcelona's Lionel Messi.
"I'm a great fan of Lionel Messi at Barcelona. When I look at Seanie, he really reminds me of him," said O'Sullivan.
"Seanie has the same kind of balance, burst of speed and he's powerful on the ball.
"He has a great shot from any range and he's good in the air. He has everything going for him. He still has to build up a bit of muscle, but there's no doubt West Ham will help him do that.
"If Seanie keeps progressing the way he is, it won't be long before he's getting first-team football at West Ham. There is no question whatsoever he will be a star one day for the Republic of Ireland."
Bournemouth have completed the permanent signing of striker Brett Pitman - who had been on loan from Bristol City - on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
The Jersey-born player, 24, made his Bournemouth debut in 2005 before joining City in 2010, and has now returned to the south coast club, who visit Wigan in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Tottenham signing Zeki Fryers returns to England six months after he left Old Trafford for Belgian side Standard Liege in the summer.
The full-back, who has been capped at England youth level, is set to initially link up with Spurs' development squad after his transfer was announced this yesterday..

West Ham's new signing Sean Maguire finished joint-top scorer in the League of Ireland First Division in 2012.
"People tend to say my best trait is my movement so hopefully I can show that here," Maguire, who has signed a two-and-a-half year contract, told West Ham's official website.
"I haven't been told yet which squad I will be in but I presume I'll be going into the reserves so I'll try to work my way up like I did at Waterford."
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said defenders Johan Djourou and Sebastien Squillaci could leave the club this month.
"Squillaci, if he finds a club, he will certainly go," said the Frenchman. "Djourou might go somewhere as well, that will be decided in the next 48 to 72 hours."
