THEY ARE GOOD BUT NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR UNITED

With qualification assured, and the first team turning in a limp performance against Norwich on Saturday, it's no surprise Sir Alex Ferguson has elected to spare his star men a trip to Turkey by naming a 21 man squad to face Galatasaray, which 15 youngsters with 5 already in the United first team. The list includes; Johnstone, Lindegaard; Rafael, Buttner, Jones, Thorpe, Vermijl, Wootton; Carrick, Petrucci, Cole, Cleverley, Fletcher, Anderson, Powell, Young, Tunnicliffe; Hernandez, King, Welbeck, Macheda. It's actually a great chance for United's youngsters to get a taste of the Champions League away day experience, with England under-19 captain Tom Thorpe included for the first time.

But the real question is are this youngsters good enough to succeed at Manchester United or are they good enough to get the maximum point tonight in Turkey?
Manchester United as we all know its a club that loves to win at all cost, and because of that they always put up a great fight for honours in any competition they find themselves in.
Manchester United has won many trophies in English football, including a record 19 league titles, a record 11 FA Cups, four League cups and a record 19 FA Community Shields. The club has also won three European Cups, one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, one Intercontinental cup and one FIFA Club World Cup. In 1998–99, the club won a Treble of the Premier League, the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League, an unprecedented feat for an English club. And for them to keep up with this standard they need to make sure they keep up the pace with other teams in Europe who invest so much on quality players so as to win Titles.
Even with the level of big names in the United senior squad, they can't be matched with those at either Manchester City nor Chelsea not to mention Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Though due to the Uefa Financial Fair play rule, clubs now try to invest in their home grown talent to help reduce the amount of money paid for already established players from other countries and United is no exception.
But taking a look at the current crop of players at the United youth system, they are no doubt a bunch of talent, but the truth still remains that this youngsters may not be able to match the achievement of the 1992 youth FA Cup winning side of David Beckham and Paul Scholes, not to talk of competing with other teams in the premiership or in Europe.
Looking back at the Capital one cup between Chelsea and Manchester United, one need not to look too far to find out the reason why that particular match had to get into extra time and why United lost the game to Chelsea. Even though the average age of the two teams were almost the same with players like Juan Mata, Eden Hazard, David Luiz and Oscar all below 25years of age.
United have always be known to have one of the best youth development system in Europe and no doubt among this current crop of youngsters they are players who have already made their mark both at the first team level and at the national team level this goes to show that the future is bright for Manchester United Football club as they try to continue the culture of trying to mix old, experience and youth together to produce a solid team that can compete for trophies anytime anywhere.
But as the saying goes "Many are called few are chosen....." and I believe we already know those who will be chosen. If there would be any surprises only time will surely tell.
